QUEZON City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday urged voters to “choose a leader who has a strategy” and to vote for a new mayor who has a clear “road map” for the city’s continued economic progress.

Vocal about her plans to run for mayor in 2019, Belmonte, on her third and last term as vice mayor, believes she is in “the best position to make change happen.”

“While we should seek leaders who are passionate and inspired, and who have great ideas, it is also important to find those who—more than simply having a vision—also have a road map,” she said.

Describing herself as “someone who has been here every day,” she said she has learned so much from being the vice mayor and presiding officer of the 37-member city council in her eight years in public service.

“As someone who has been here every day, crafting ordinances with the city council and working with the mayor, I know how to take us there. And I believe that I am in the best position to make change happen,” she said.

If elected, she said she would focus on modernizing the systems and processes at the city hall to provide the public with better services.

Belmonte is the chairperson of the Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse Advisory Council, and was named ambassador of peace by the Universal Peace Federation.
