Muslim leaders in the Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela or Camanava area yesterday expressed their support to the peace and order campaign of the Philippine National Police in the northern part of Metro Manila.

Muslim leaders and their imams residing in Camanava expressed this during a dialogue with the Northern Police District officials led by NPD Director Supt. Ricardo Fajardo.

“We love our country so much, the Moro fought side by side with the Filipinos against the invaders, so we will not allow our country to be destroyed,” a Muslim leader from Caloocan said, requesting anonymity.

Fajardo assured the Muslim leaders of continuous police service and protection to prevent similar incidents like the recent explosions in Quiapo, Manila, which have claimed at least two lives.

The dialogue was meant to show the concerns of the PNP to the Muslim community, and assure them the police will be their guardian against criminality and terrorism, the NPD said in a statement.

It also aims to defuse tension and urges cooperation and unity among every Muslim group, according to Fajardo.

“Let us all together help in maintaining the peace and order in Camanava and report those who will disturb the peace,” he said.

The imams vowed to render full cooperation to the PNP’s anti-crime and anti-terrorism drive by encouraging their community leaders to police their own community and deny criminal and terrorist groups the opportunities to carry out their acts.

In another development, Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco has congratulated a centenarian couple for their valuable contribution to the city.

Tiangco recently visited couple Abundio Montesa, 103 and his wife Cirila, 100 at their house and gave each of them P10,000.

He also pledged to give the pair P2,000 monthly allowance in addition to their daily expenditures.

Mr. Montesa thanked the local government for the assistance extended to them.
