Cavite health workers, nutrition scholars get P16m in incentives

INDANG, Cavite”•Around P16 million worth of cash incentives were distributed Tuesday to some 2,394 barangay health workers (BHWs) and 328 barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) for the period covering July to December this year.

Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla led the provincial government’s distribution and turnover of checks representing the third and last quarter of this year’s pay to the barangay workers throughout the province.

Of the amount, P14.36 million were distributed to the health workers, while P2.05 million were earmarked for the nutrition scholars.

Remulla thanked the barangay workers for “their untiring efforts in realizing the provincial health care program.”

Cavite’s accredited BHWs, who are actively and regularly performing their duties, are entitled to hazard and subsistence allowance under the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 7883 or “An Act Granting Benefits and Incentives to Accredited Barangay Health Workers.”

Although the BNS are also acknowledged for their services, they expressed fulfillment to have served their community as first responders in averting unnecessary child deaths.

They also receive at the most the monthly traveling allowance depending on the financial capability of the funding source.

Joining Remulla during the turnover of cash incentives were former Governor Jonvic Remulla, Indang Mayor Perfecto Fidel, Vice Mayor Sammy Rodil and Dr. Gilbert Ilog, Provincial Health Officer II.

Meanwhile, in General Trias, scores of Cavite’s informal settlers and homeless residents have joined a forum hosted by the provincial Housing Development and Management Office on the Community Mortgage Program.

In a report from the Provincial Information Office on Tuesday, the HDMO convened legally organized associations of underprivileged and homeless constituents here during a public forum at the Bayleaf Hotel here starting December 13 to address issues on the lack of affordable housing.

During the forum, Will Peran of the Social Housing Finance Corp. Partner Relations Divisions said the CMP’s primary objective is to assist residents of blighted areas to own the lots they occupy or where they choose to relocate to and eventually improve their neighborhood and homes to the extent of their affordability.

Forum participants were briefed of the government’s CMP and the technical processes involved, especially on its “pabahay” scheme, or “home for the homeless” program, particularly among informal settlers’ access to acquiring their own homes through modest and affordable scheme.

For his part, Engr. John O. Lee, head of SHFC’s Technical Department, said the technical process of the project entails legal references, procedures and compliance requirements.

Joining the housing forum were the so-called “housing envoys” lawyer Tristan Frederick Tresvalles, vice-president officer-in-charge (OIC) of the SHFC Luzon Operations; Dr. Dominic Tolentino, Housing Economic Enterprises Regulatory Office chief; Amando Mendoza, OIC-manager of High Density Housing ( HDH) and Marcelino Bautista, also of  HDH.
