QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya—Three scholars of a mining firm here have recently earned their college degrees.

Peter Storey, FCF Minerals Corp. general manager for operations, said the new graduates are Joyce Dulnuan and Michele Garcia, both graduating with degrees in Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the Nueva Vizcaya State University, and Rea Maye Leslie Mejares, with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Geology from Adamson University.

Garcia and Dulnuan hail from barangays Boliwao and Runruno in this town, respectively, while Mejares is a native of barangay Domang in Dupax del Norte town.

Storey said the new graduates are now in Manila to prepare for their board examination in November.

The three are among the 24 college students being supported by FCF Minerals’ scholarship program.

The program is implemented by the firm under its Geosciences Program, a mandate of the company pursuant to the Mining Act of 1995.

Administrative Order 2010-21 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources requires mining firms to provide assistance to poor but deserving students in pursuing their college education, preferably along the geosciences courses.
