STA. ROSA CITY, Laguna—A police officer was killed during a drug buy-bust operation here Wednesday night in what turned out to be a series of unfortunate events.
Sta. Rosa Chief of Police Supt Joel Estaris identified the officer as PO3 Harry Cabacang, assigned to the Laguna Police Public Safety Company.
Cabacang, who was drunk and had fought with his girlfriend hours earlier, tried to intervene in the arrest of a certain “Utoy” and his three cohorts caught by police in the buy-bust at 9:45 p.m. on May 3 at Mercado Village, Barangay Pulo, Sta. Cruz, Estaris said.
Cabacang fired at the arresting police even after the latter identified themselves, and PO1 Juan Cruzen shot Cabacang, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police recovered 18 sachets of suspected shabu from the suspects, Estaris added.
