The cities of Bacoor and Carmona which were named Hall of Famers were represented by mayors Strike Revilla and Roy Loyola, respectively, along with Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla.

This marked the eighth consecutive year for the city of Bacoor and Carmona to win the award, while General Trias under the leadership of Mayor Luis Ferrer IV pulled off a grand slam of sorts. It was the fifth time for Rosario town to bag the award.

Mayor Pecto Fidel of Indang expressed his gratitude for the SGLG award, saying “before I left my term, we were given the SGLG award with the help of the staff of our town and the barangay. We really improved to pass its qualifications.”

Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua cited the city hall employees and staff for the first SGLG recognition.

“This proves the skill and talent of our government. The result of the efforts and cooperation of every employee of our city government. Again, we have proved that Cavite City is one of the best local government units in the whole country,” Chua noted.

The DILG’s SGLG award uses standards and criteria that promote good governance, transparency, and effective and efficient public services.

The SGLG award symbolizes the locality’s integrity and good performance through continuing governance reform and sustained local development, a progressive assessment system adopted by the DILG to give distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas.

Among the core areas for assessment of component cities and 1st to 3rd class municipalities are their financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, including peace and order.

Also considered are business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, tourism promotion and development, and cultural heritage promotion and conservation.

Alfonso Mayor Randy Salamat was also happy for the recognition his locality received.

The 714 LGU awardees consisted of 41 provinces, 96 cities, and 577 municipalities.

A total of 22 LGUs were eight-time winners, while 135 other were first-timers.
