The local government unit (LGU) of New Corella, Davao Del Norte implemented curfew and checkpoints following back-to-back shooting incidents that killed at least three residents and injured another in one week.
Mayor Jorjan “Monette” Federiso in an executive order 32 ordered that a curfew from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. must be strictly observed by the residents effective Thursday as a precautionary measure for the public’s safety and security.
Aside from the curfew, there will be checkpoints stationed at the crossing of Del Pilar to allow police personnel to check and inspect motorists passing the main highway entering Del Pilar proper or going through the New Corella town proper.
According to police investigation, the first shooting incident was reported on November 3 where one alyas Okie Recto was shot dead at around 9:20 p.m. while driving an improvised tricycle vehicle called Bao-Bao in Barangay Mesaoy, New Corella, Davao Del Norte. The 46-year-old employee of Davao Regional Medical Center was a local ambulance crew member.
After a week, another shooting incident was reported at 6:20 p.m. on November 10, where a vendor identified as Marcelino Tinapay was shot by an unidentified suspect while driving his tricycle with his wife as a passenger.
The third shooting incident occurred on November 12 at 10:55 p.m. inside the victim’s residence in Purok Durian, Del Pilar. The victim identified as Nestor Silayan Matuco, 63, and his partner Alma Cumamao Minoza were resting in their room when the suspect entered the house and fired his gun hitting the two victims.
Motives of the said killings are still under investigation. Police are trying to establish if the suspects in the three shooting incidents are one and the same, connected to each incident.
