The Iloilo Provincial Government said it has spent a total of P2 million on the creation of the “Cry of Santa Barbara” float, which participated and won in the recently concluded cultural event held at the Rizal Park in Manila, coinciding with the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration.
According to the financial liquidation presented by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., the expenses were broken down as follows:
· P867,755 was allocated for the delivery of supplies and materials
· P800,922 was spent on the fabrication and installation of the float, including materials, carpentry work, logos, signage, artwork, and electrical components
· P143,463.92 covered the rental of equipment for transporting the float
· P270,000 was allocated for dismantling the float after the event
Defensor emphasized that the float showcased the authentic culture of the people of Iloilo, providing increased recognition for the province. He also noted that the provincial government’s participation in the parade was “per invitation.”
The intricate design of the float will be displayed for two weeks in the lobby of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, where an exhibit will be inaugurated by the governor.
Following the exhibition, the trophy and the P1 million cash prize won by the province will be formally handed over to the local government of Santa Barbara to support heritage projects.
After the exhibition period, the float will be sent to the town of Santa Barbara.
The “Cry of Santa Barbara” float emerged as the winning entry in the parade with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. awarding a trophy and P1 million cash prize to the province.
The float’s design and cultural significance have garnered accolades and provided a platform to highlight Iloilo’s heritage, marking a proud moment for the province on a national stage.
