College Burns Down

The Catholic College of Santa Rita in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. A terrible accident caused this horrific fire last evening. My sister-in-law April Rose Dungog Amolo is a freshman at this college. I dropped her off here several times while I was visiting there in May of this year. A large part of the school and dormitories was under construction and this is what caught fire due to an overburdened AC I'm told. The school is gone plus some next door retail buildings. There is not enough fire equipment in the city to handle a fire of this size. Also because of a lack of water that was available to be put on the fire, so some buildings next to the school also burned down. I have sketchy reports about how much or if any of the church structures survived. The fire photo shows the Church still standing. My sister-in-law is safe. No word on how she will continue her college education.

This Facebook photo taken by a drone camera shows Colegio de Sta. Rita in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental burning down late Monday. Reports said the blaze started from a malfunctioning air conditioner, as the fire spread and gutted the whole school plus commercial buildings beside it. The school, which is being managed by Augustinian Recollect sisters, has been operating since the 1930s. FB photo
