Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. said Monday it remains interested in building an expressway going to Sangley Point once the Cavite provincial government awards the contract to develop and operate a $10.9-billion international airport.
MPTC chief financial officer Christopher Lizo said the company’s proposal to construct a five to six-kilometer toll road going to Sangley Point would depend on the development of the international airport in Cavite.
“Our proposal depends on the opening of the Sangley Airport for certainty. The two projects could be built at the same time,” he said.
The Cavite government earlier awarded the original proponent status to SPIA Development Consortium, which is composed of Cavitex Holdings Inc., Yuchengco Group, MacroAsia Corp. and their foreign partners to develop and operate the Sangely International Airport.
MPTC plans to construct Segment 5 of Cavitex—a 22-kilometer road that will link Kawit to Noveleta to Sangley and to Tanza.
MPTC earlier said it would revive its proposals with the Department of Public Works and Highways to build the P22.4-billion Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway, P71.9-billion C-5 Expressway, P92-billion NLEX-Cavitex Port Expressway Link and the P16-billion Harbor Link Port Access Mobility Facility.
MPTC is now building the P23-billion NLEX Connector Road, which is expected to provide 35,000 motorists better access to Manila ports and airports. This will also enable faster transport of goods and services between Metro Manila and Luzon provinces.
The company operates the North Luzon Expressway, Cavite Laguna Expressway, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, Manila-Cavite Expressway and C5 Southlink Expressway.
It inaugurated the 8.9-kilometer Cebu Cordova Link Expressway on April 27 in Cebu. The bridge is expected to accommodate about 50,000 vehicles a day.
