President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. asked the Department of Public Works and Highways to pursue big-ticket infrastructure projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program

Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the president ordered the prioritization of infrastructure that would help in the food security program amid the rising inflation and the interconnectivity of regions and convergence programs with other agencies.

He said the DPWH would continue to tap the private sector for the country’s road network improvement through public-private partnership program.

Bonoan assured the public that he “will lead by example” in instilling professionalism among colleagues and welcomes insightful public feedbacks and comments.

“We encourage the public to reach out and help in nation-building. Any issue or complaint may be coursed through our social media pages, email, and hotline numbers,” Bonoan said.

Bonoan, a former president and chief executive of San Miguel Corporation Tollways, has an extensive career as a public servant that started at DPWH in 1966, spanning four decades until his retirement in 2010 as senior undersecretary.

His practice as a professional civil engineer continued when he joined the private sector and became top executive of one of the leading companies engaged in the construction, management and operation of expressway network.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista earlier said his department would continue the “Build, Build, Build” program with focus on moving passengers and goods.

Bautista, former president of Philippine Airlines, said the Marcos administration would provide “accessible, affordable, comfortable and safe transport service throughout the country” through the use of the transport systems.

“As discussed during my initial meeting with President Bongbong, we will transform the Philippine transport industry and elevate it to global standards,” Bautista said.
