Eight buildings located at the Freeport Area of Bataan in Mariveles town are now capable of producing solar power, with total capacity of 2.84 megawatts after leading agro-solar energy supply and solutions company Citicore Power Inc. completed the works ahead of schedule.

Citicore said Tuesday it finished the installation of solar panels in more than half of the 14 buildings  in the AFAB project in seven months, two months ahead of the deadline and despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very pleased with that this AFAB [Authority of Freeport Area of Bataan] project is ahead of time. The early, though still partial, completion of our contract will allow the AFAB locators to harness solar energy and embed energy efficiency as an integral part of their operations already, which is also in line with the agency’s overall sustainability strategy,” Citicore president Oliver Tan said.

“We thank our partners and employees for working tirelessly even during the pandemic,” Tan said.

Citicore expects to complete the entire project for AFAB this month, which would help reduce the agency’s carbon emissions by 5,800 metric tons a year and provide them energy savings up to P5.3 million annually.
