Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday proposed the removal of the 100-kilowatt size limit in the installation of generation facilities under the net metering program to encourage large consumers to invest and use indigenous and renewable energy resources.
Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy, said Senate Bill No. 2219 would encourage more investments in RE and provide support in terms of savings to industries that have the capacity to install power generator facilities such as solar panels on their rooftops.
He said removing the 100-kilowatt cap would allow large electricity consumers such as commercial establishments, industrial buildings and government offices to avail of the net-metering program under Republic Act No. 9513, or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.
“The rooftop now becomes a resource. If we have rooftop, it’s as good as real estate because we can install solar panels and generate revenue,” said Gatchalian.
