A group said it will file next week a case before the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission against presidential adviser Ramon Jacinto for pushing what it described as a “felonious” plan that would allegedly set unfair practice in the cell tower construction business.
Ed Cordevilla, the founding leader of the Filipino League of Advocates for Good Governance, said in a statement Jacinto’s duopoly proposal for cell tower companies would run counter to President Rodrigo Duterte’s program against monopoly or duopoly in the telecommunications industry.
“While Duterte’s IT bright boys are hell-bent in its move to break the telcos duopoly in the country, here comes Jacinto’s bid to create a duopoly in the tower construction business,” said Cordevilla.
Cordevilla said the duopoly proposal would be in violation of congressional enactments, which vested in telcos’ franchises the rights to build, operate and maintain their own cell towers.
He said his group would also furnish PAGC with documents which would allegedly reveal Jacinto’s real motive in pushing for the towercos duopoly.
