The Philippines is expected to resume importing beef from the United Kingdom, 10 years after it imposed a ban amid the mad cow scare.

The British Embassy in Manila said Wednesday it recently struck a trade deal with the Philippines for a 34 million pounds or $44 million worth of beef exports to Manila.

The Department of International Trade team at the British Embassy Manila provided significant support to UK beef exporters to successfully bring in beef to the Philippines.

“I am delighted to see that British beef is coming back to the Philippines and look forward to serving this fantastic British product at the Residence and at other British Embassy events,” said British Ambassador-designate to the Philippines Daniel Pruce.

Beef reared in the UK will now join pork, poultry, lamb and dairy on the list of UK food and drink shipped to the Philippines.
