Conglomerate JG Summit Holdings Inc. of the Gokongwei family said Thursday it is investigating a potential data breach and is working closely with cybersecurity experts.

“We are aware of reports suggesting a possible cybersecurity incident,” JG Summit said in a statement after reports circulated that the company has been struck by a ransomeware attack.

JG Summit, which has diversified investments spanning real estate, airline, food manufacturing and petrochemical, said its business units continue to have “normal operations”.

“We have activated our response protocols and bolstered our security measures to safeguard our data,” JG Summit said.

Cybersecurity group Deep Web Konek reported that up to 300 gigabytes of JG Summit’s data might have been compromised following a cyberattack by RansomHub.

“We take this matter very seriously. Recognizing the challenges faced by many organizations in today’s cybersecurity landscape, protecting our data and maintaining stakeholder trust are our top priorities,” JG Summit said.

Several companies have recently been involved in major data breach including Jollibee Foods Corp. and Maxicare Healthcare Corp.’s third-party booking service Lab@Home.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas earlier launched the Financial Services Cyber Resilience Plan (FSCRP) to strengthen banks and other financial institutions against cyber threats.

The FSCRP serves as a comprehensive roadmap and primary framework aimed at enhancing the resilience of the financial services sector against cyber threats.

It also outlines high-level goals and strategies essential for maintaining the integrity and security of the country’s financial ecosystem.
