Shopee, a leading online shopping site, said it posted record sales on Nov. 11 which marks the start of its big Christmas sale.
In its third year in the Philippines and Taiwan, Shopee said the first wave of its big Christmas sale drew more than 11 million orders across the region—around 4.5 times the number in 2017. Total site visits hit more than 42 million and over 58,000 items were sold in a single minute.
“As our biggest Shopee 11.11 Big Christmas Sale shopping event to date, this year’s sale was extremely well-received by users, and again surpassed all past achievements in record time,” said Shopee chief operating officer Terence Pang.
The 11.11 Big Christmas Sale in the Philippines featured an upsized package of non-stop promotions at up to 99 percent off, the comeback of the Shopee Shake in-app game, and exclusive deals from brand and strategic partners.
Top participating brands and sellers enjoyed up to 1,159 times their average daily orders and over 1,500 percent increase in traffic.
Among the brand merchants that actively participated were Maybelline, Asus, P&G, Unilever, St. Ives, Mossimo, Unisilver Time, Wyeth – Promil and Platinum Karaoke.
Shopee teamed up with Cebu Pacific, Smart Telecommunications, Rakuten and Viber for promotion.
According to platform statistics, women’s apparel, mobile and accessories, and home and living emerged as the top three categories.
Shopee’s mobile-first strategy continued to be a key success factor for this year’s 11.11 Big Sale in the country, with around 95 percent of orders made on mobile.
Shopee Shake also remained popular among Filipino users and was played around 2 million times throughout the campaign.
