Toyota Tsusho Corp., the trading company of the Toyota Group of Japan, expressed interest to participate in the run-of-river hydro projects of Alsons Consolidated Resources Corp., an executive said Tuesday.
Alsons Energy Development Corp. vice president for business development Joseph Nocos said Toyota Tsusho was looking at two hydropower projects currently under development.
“So far, Siguil and Bago are the projects that Toyota is actively working on,” Nocos said.
Alsons is developing nearly 150 megawatts of hydro power projects mostly located in Mindanao, including the 15 -megawatt Siguil run-of -river hydroelectric power project in Maasim, Sarangani province.
The Siguil hydro project is expected to begin commercial operations by the first half of 2020. It will provide power to Sarangani province, General Santos City and key municipalities in South Cotabato.
Alsons also plans to start construction of the Bago hydro projects in Negros Occidental with a combined capacity of over 40 megawatts next year, with completion eyed by mid 2021.
