The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office XI said it acknowledges the Supreme Court’s issuance of a Writ of Kalikasan concerning the Samal Island–Davao City Connector (SIDC) Bridge Project.
It said in a statement that in compliance with the directive, it would submit a verified return within 10 calendar days of receiving the order. The non-extendable submission will contain accurate, complete and science-based information to assist the court, it said.
The Supreme Court issued the Writ of Kalikasan against the China-funded project and referred the case for a temporary environmental protection order (TEPO) to the Court of Appeals.
Respondents in the case include the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the DENR, the Samal Island Protected Landscape and Seascape Protected Area Management Board and the China Road and Bridge Corp.
As the DENR’s regional regulatory authority in the Davao Region, the office reaffirmed its commitment to upholding environmental laws and ensuring all projects within its jurisdiction fully comply with the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) System and other applicable legal requirements, the agency said.
The DENR said it is fully prepared to cooperate with judicial proceedings, vowing to provide all relevant technical documents, environmental assessments and compliance records as required.
The department cited its role as an evidence-based institution committed to promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible development.
The DENR also reiterated its dedication to advancing inclusive and sustainable development for the Filipino people, consistent with its environmental protection mandate and ensuring the well-being of present and future generations.
