The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved four transmission projects of National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) estimated to cost P5 billion.
The ERC, in its notice of commission action, identified the projects as the Granada 230 kiloVolt substation project, Sumangga 138 kV substation project, La Carlota 138 kV substation project and the Nagsaag-Tumana 69 kV transmission line project (Project no. 5).
The Granada, Sumangga and La Carlota substation projects are part of NGCP’s capital expenditure (capex) projects for 2020 to 2025, while the Nagsaag-Tumana transmission project is part of the 2017-beyond 2020 additional capex.
The ERC approved NGCP’s proposed Granada 230 kV substation project amounting to P1,943,977,100.96, which should be completed by NGCP by Aug. 31, 2028.
The proposed Granada substation project aims to address the overloading of power transformers in Bacolod Substation.
It will provide a new connection point for power customers in Negros Occidental, which shall address the load curtailment and power interruption in the area.
The ERC also approved NGCP’s Sumangga 138 kV substation project with a project cost of P1.361,891,873.73, which should be completed by March 31, 2028.
The proposed Sumangga substation project aims to address overloading in the existing Ormoc-Baybay 69 kV line. It seeks to reduce the load on the power transformers at the Ormoc Substation and ensure compliance with the N-1 contingency provision to prevent load curtailment or power interruption during contingencies.
The ERC also approved the La Carlota 138 kV substation project costing P1,129,191,746.90.
The project, which is up for completion by Aug. 31, 2028, aims to address the overloading of the Bacolod—San Enrique 69 kV Line. It also seeks to enhance the reliability of power supply in Negros Occidental and prevent load curtailment and power interruptions in the area. Alena Mae S. Flores
The regulator also approved NGCP’s Nagsaag-Tumana 69 kV transmission line project (Project no. 5) with a project cost of P583,534,890.96, which should be completed on or before Nov. 30, 2025.
The project aims to provide additional transmission capacity to cater to the growing power demand in Eastern Pangasinan. It is expected to address the overloading of the Nagsaag-Umingan 69 kV Line by transferring other loads of Pangasinan III Electric Cooperative Inc. (Panelco III) to the new transmission line.
The ERC said the project costs are subject optimization based on actual use and verified expenses during the reset process for the subsequent regulatory period.
