The National Electrification Administration (NEA) said it is working to reach its target of 94-percent electrification of remote households through its partner electric cooperatives (ECs) nationwide this year.
NEA administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda said the state-owned corporation remains optimistic about achieving its electrification targets despite working with a limited budget. He noted that Mindanao provinces remain a top priority for the NEA.
“I was informed that Congress has already heard the funding requirement, and we are expecting to reach about 94 percent by 2025, if all logistical and funding support is in place,” Almeda said in a radio interview.
The NEA was granted P1.627 billion in government subsidy to electrify about 22,000 households based on the recently signed 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA), plus P200 million for the Electric Cooperatives Emergency and Resiliency Fund (ECERF).
These figures are unchanged from the approved subsidy for rural electrification projects in the 2024 GAA, according to NEA acting department manager for rural electrification special program office Raymond Napilot.
