Lazada bullish on December sales

One of the country’s largest e-commerce platforms, Lazada, is confident to achieve at least 15 percent rise in sales and transactions this coming December 2024 mega sale.

Lazada senior vice president head of buyer operations Alvin Ching emphasized the platform’s steady growth amidst a competitive market.

“E-commerce penetration in the Philippines is still below 7 percent of total retail. Our main competition isn’t other platforms—it’s offline shopping. A lot of consumers are still buying offline, and we’re focused on creating awareness of the convenience and variety online shopping offers,” he said on the sidelines of a media event Tuesday.

December remains a crucial period for Lazada with Filipinos embracing online platforms for their Christmas gifting needs.

Ching said the Philippines sees a natural surge in sales during this period compared to neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

To mitigate logistical challenges commonly experienced during the holiday rush, Lazada kicked off its promotional period earlier this year, running from Dec. 9 to Dec. 14.

“We wanted to get ahead of the holiday backlog. By encouraging early shopping, we can ensure parcels move through the network on time and reach customers before Christmas,” Ching said.

Despite strong offline retail promotions and increasing competition from other online marketplaces, Lazada remains confident in its growth.
