Globe Telecom Inc. said Monday it shifted 20 of its facilities to 100-percent renewable energy supply through ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), with three other sites in the process of transition with guaranteed renewable energy supply from ACEN Corp.
These facilities include the Globe Tower, its corporate headquarters in BGC, Taguig, which shifted to RE in 2019, with some more sites set for transitioning this year.
“Digitalization and sustainability are at the very core of the Ayala group. We are excited to harness these synergies with Globe and help empower the Filipino people in a sustainable manner,” ACEN president and chief executive Eric Francia said.
ACEN manages 4.8 gigawatts of attributable renewable energy capacity, both operational and under construction. The company’s domestic assets include 1,850 MW of solar, wind and geothermal capacity.
Globe worked with ACEN RES, the retail electricity supply unit of the Ayala group, for its proven track record in delivering sustainable and reliable renewable energy solutions. Under this partnership, Globe aims to reduce its carbon footprint as part of its net zero strategy.
Globe said that by transitioning to RE, its facilities avoided 42,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere from Globe’s 2023 consumption.
“This milestone marks a significant step towards our goal of transitioning to renewable energy. By working together with ACEN RES, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also demonstrating our commitment to providing innovative digital solutions for Filipinos towards a sustainable future,” Globe president and chief executive Ernest Cu said.
To commemorate the partnership achievement, Francia and Cu unveiled Globe’s Powered by Renewable Energy badge at the Globe Tower.
The badge is awarded by ACEN RES to its customers who have shifted to 100 percent renewable energy supply.
Globe’s badge serves as a testament to the company’s dedication to sustainability and its active role in promoting renewable energy adoption in the Philippines.
The partnership with ACEN RES further strengthens Globe’s position as a leader in the telecommunications industry, demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable business practices.
