NGCP seeks ERC nod to recover P88b from 2 projects

National Grid Corp. of the Philippines asked the Energy Regulatory Commission to allow it to fully recover costs totaling over P87.7 billion for two recently-completed transmission projects.

NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Perez-Alabanza said the recoveries for the projects were “very small.”

“How much will be spent and how much can be charged to consumers for that cost, for that facility, the ERC dictates that,” Alabanza said.

NGCP completed the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose transmission line project, which was filed with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) at a project cost of P20.94 billion

The company also completed the P67.98-billion Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) 230-kiloVolt (kV) backbone transmission lines in April.

NGCP said it was only allowed to recover P176 million for the CNP project and P25.72 million for the Mariveles-HSJ transmission project.

“With the completion of this critical project, NGCP is optimistic that the ERC will act on the overdue recoveries applied for by NGCP,” the company said earlier.

NGCP assured the public and its stakeholders that it would continue to deliver on its commitment to improve, expand, strengthen and reinforce the country’s power grid.

NGCP, the country’s transmission operator, completed around 98 projects since it took over the operations and maintenance of the transmission system in 2009.

The projects enabled the entry of 12,100 megawatts of additional power, while incoming projects would accommodate another 7,600 MW by 2028.
