The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Siemens Inc. of Germany signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Friday to solidify their partnership in advancing Industry 4.0 and e-mobility in the Philippines.
“In 2019, we signed an MoU with DTI to strengthen collaboration and facilitate technical, policy, and information exchanges in driving the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector. I’m proud that this has resulted in a project for our Digital Industries business to conduct a feasibility study to conceptualize DTI’s Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory in 2022,” said Siemens ASEAN president and chief executive Thai Lai Pham.
The MOU at the Siemens Advance Manufacturing Transformation Center in Singapore was the second between the two countries that specifically calls for the establishment of the Industry 4.0 pilot factory.
The facility will showcase digital and automation technologies that manufacturing companies, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) can access and leverage.
Siemens and DTI will also explore developing use cases of artificial intelligence (AI) applied in critical manufacturing sectors such as food and beverage, electronics, semiconductors, chemicals and automotive.
“As we renew our commitment to this partnership, we look forward to the limitless opportunities that lie ahead. We will embark on more transformative initiatives, driving our ambitions further and ensuring that we remain at the cutting edge of industrial innovation. Together, we will explore new frontiers in line with global trends such as the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence, along with the pressing need for embracing environmental sustainability,” said Trade Secretary Alredo Pascual.
The MoU complements the agency’s efforts to promote electric vehicles in the Philippines, including the Electric Vehicle Incentives Scheme (EVIS).
EVIS aims to have 4 million locally-manufactured EVs in the next decade.
