The Philippines and the United Kingdom (UK) strengthened their collaboration on improving the country’s transport system though the launch of the Transit Facility Design Standards (TFDS).

“It is really important in all of this that the government of the Philippines and government of UK share a vision—a vision for high-quality, passenger-focused, inclusive public transportation,” UK Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils said.

“We all know this will deliver so many returns,” she said.

Under the TFDS, DOTr will establish guidelines and criteria to govern the planning, construction and maintenance of the country’s transit facilities. The DOTr-TFDS committee will oversee its implementation.

Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista described the TFDS as a “pivotal achievement” that would shape the Philippines’ transport infrastructure.

“The completion of TFDS stands as a testament to the success of our joint endeavors outlines in the UK-PH Joint Work Plan 2023-2024,” Bautista said.

“We share this commitment to elevate service standards, enhance accessibility, promote inclusivity, and foster sustainability in our transport networks,” he said.
