State-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) said Friday it is exploring joint projects and technical cooperation with Korea Water Resources Corp. for dam safety operations.

Napocor president and chief executive Fernando Martin Roxas recently welcomed the delegates and officials from K-Water headed by chief executive Yun Seog-dae.

K-Water, the leading water management corporation in South Korea, played a pivotal role in Korea’s economic development and has shown over the years that the improvement of the quality of life and the systematic water management are linked together.

Yun expressed K-Water’s interest in expanding technical cooperation with Napocor in the dam safety field including the utilization of state-of-the-art technology for instrumentation during his visit.

K-Water, the largest emerging renewable energy producer in South Korea, shared valuable information on sustainable future for the Philippines.

Napocor also discussed the importance of the official development assistance (ODA) project for the Angat Dam flood management and the previously requested collaboration and support from K-Water for its implementation.

Meanwhile, Napocor and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region IVA sealed a partnership for the implementation of the Irrigation Water Resources Management Plan in the Sta. Cruz River Irrigation System within the Makiling-Banahaw geothermal reservation in Laguna.

Under the partnership, NIA committed to funding the project implementation while Napocor would provide consent and technical assistance covering 2023 to 2026.

The Makiling-Banahaw geothermal reservation, sprawling across 165,960 hectares in Laguna, Batangas and Quezon provinces, falls under Napocor’s management by virtue of Executive Order No. 224 and Presidential Proclamation No. 1111.
