Panlilio stepping down as PLDT president, CEO

PLDT Inc. announced Tuesday the retirement of Alfredo Panlilio as president and chief executive effective Dec. 31 this year on health reasons.

The company said its board of directors appointed the incumbent chairman Manuel Pangilinan as president and CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2024 concurrent to his role as chairman.

Panlilio replaced Pangilinan in July 2021 as president and chief executive of PLDT and Smart Communications Inc.

Panlilio has been instrumental in steering the PLDT Group during the challenging times of the Covid 19 pandemic and enabling it to sustain profitability and industry leadership in the difficult period

Under his leadership, PLDT received numerous accolades for its pioneering brand, corporate social responsibility, cybersecurity, network and sustainability initiatives.

Panlilio was recognized as CEO of the Year in 2022, while PLDT was named one of the World’s Best Companies by Time Magazine in 2023.

Pangilinan expressed gratitude to Panlilio for the vision, energy and heart that he dedicated to PLDT’s customers, employees, shareholders and the board of directors.

“I would like to thank Al profusely for his service and his loyalty, and wish him the very best. I also enjoin everyone to support a smooth transition within the PLDT Group at this critical juncture of its corporate life,” Pangilinan said.

Panlilio will continue to serve as a director of PLDT, Smart and MediaQuest Holdings Inc., chairman of Maya Bank and Bonifacio Communications Corp., director of Multisys Technologies Corp. and MultiPay, president of MVP Sports Foundation, trustee of Asian Carriers Conference and member of the Management Association of the Philippines.
