The government said Wednesday it lifted the cease-and-desist order on the Siana gold mining operation of Greenstone Resources Corp. in Surigao del Norte, after the company installed remedial measures.

MGB issued a cease-and-desist order against Greenstone on June 6, 2014, after a tension crack was discovered in its tailings storage facility no. 4 in Tubod, Surigao del Norte.  MGB, in a letter to Greenstone president Gregory Charles Edwards, asked the company to stop undertaking gold ore mineral processing in the contract area under mineral production sharing agreement No. 184-2002-XIII until such time that remedial or corrective measures to restore the stability and integrity of TSF No. 4 were instituted.

The lifting of the CDO hinged on the construction of a new tailings storage facility for additional storage and strength, installation of thickener and cement mixing facility for production of a dry product with greater residual strength and modifications of TSF Nos. 3 and 4 for accommodation of the new thickened cement tailings.

MGB said it found the conditions were substantially complied with by GRC following an inspection of the company’s ongoing rehabilitation measures in November last year.
