Business group pledges to boost trade with China

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) met with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan to discuss strategies for strengthening economic diplomacy and bilateral relations, ahead of the Philippines hosting the 2026 ASEAN Summit.

The meeting focused on the private sector’s commitment to supporting the Philippine government’s push for improved ties with China, a move spurred by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s June 2025 call for business leaders to promote the Philippines as a dependable partner for economic growth.

FFCCCII president Victor Lim led the discussion, outlining several key initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The FFCCCII plans to expand Philippine exports by actively promoting local products at major Chinese import fairs, including the China International Import Expo in Shanghai and the China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning.

The group will also work to boost two-way tourism, leveraging China as the world’s largest tourism market to increase tourist arrivals in the Philippines and promote greater cultural understanding.

The FFCCCII is also focused on championing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), aligning with President Marcos’s call to empower these businesses as crucial drivers for inclusive economic growth.

The federation also pledged to host the 2026 ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders’ Summit in Manila in October next year. The summit will follow the successful inaugural event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and will commemorate the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
