The New Year reception for business partners of the Chinese Enterprises Philippine Association (CEPA) was held on January 6, 2026 in Manila.
More than 300 people from Philippine government agencies, Filipino-Chinese community, business circles, and Chinese enterprises participated in the event.
Benito Techico, Special Envoy of the President of the Philippines for Trade, Investment, and Tourism, and CEPA President Hu Xinquan delivered their remarks.
Minister-Counselor Yang Guoliang highlighted the significant progress made in China-Philippines economic and trade cooperation throughout 2025.
Ambassador Jing Quan delivered a keynote speech during the reception, where he also presented awards to notable Chinese enterprises and outstanding Chinese and Filipino employees.
In his speech, Jing highlighted the strong economic ties and significant potential for cooperation between China and the Philippines.
He emphasized that successful economic and trade dealings require a fair and stable business environment. To achieve this, joint efforts are needed to address the concerns of Chinese enterprises regarding work visas, tax and customs inspections.
He pointed out that economic cooperation relies on stable bilateral relations. The Philippines can maintain friendly ties with both China and the US without having to choose sides, similar to other ASEAN members. This balanced approach serves the Philippines’ fundamental and long-term interests.
Ambassador Jing stated that if maritime differences are managed effectively, exchanges between China and the Philippines will increase, leading to improved relations.
This would allow both nations to focus on mutually beneficial cooperation and provide tangible benefits for their peoples.
It is hoped that bilateral relations between China and the Philippines will get back on the right track in the coming years.
