The Association of Chinese Filipino Schools in the Philippines (ACFSP), in cooperation with the Philippine Sun Yat-sen Society, held a Minnan Yu (Southern Fujian dialect) speech contest on March 16, 2025 at the ACFSP auditorium.
The event commemorated the 100th death anniversary of Sun Yat-sen.
More than 100 Filipino-Chinese school students and community leaders from Metro Manila attended the ceremony.
Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) vice president Hong Jian Xiong, Grand Family Association of the Philippines chairman Dai An Guo and Philippine Jin Jiang General Association Inc. honorary chairman Chen Kai Fu served as jury members for the contest.
FFCCCII president Dr. Cecilio K. Pedro served as the guest speaker.
He said March 12, 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s passing, a moment remembered by Chinese communities worldwide.
Pedro highlighted Sun Yat-sen’s contributions to the democratic revolution and emphasized the importance of Minnan Yu, the language spoken by millions of Chinese in Southeast Asia and other regions.
The event underscored the cultural significance of Minnan Yu, encouraging further appreciation and study of the dialect. Michael Wong Ho
