The Rebecca Chuaunsu Film Production held a special invitational premiere screening of the Filipino Chinese indie film “Her Locket” at Fishermall Quezon City on Jan. 8,2025, ahead of its nationwide release on Jan. 22.
The event drew a full house of over 250 attendees, including Filipino Chinese community leaders, media representatives, influencers and notable figures from various sectors.
Directed by J.E. Tiglao and produced by Dr. Rebecca Shangkuan Chuaunsu, Her Locket tells the story of Jewel Ouyang, a Filipino Chinese widow with dementia, whose memories triggered by a locket lead her and her son to fight for an inheritance that is rightfully hers.
The multi-awarded film, which was selected as one of the Philippines’ official entries at the prestigious 2023 Cannes Film Festival in France, has been showcased internationally, including at the 2023 London East Asia International Film Festival in the United Kingdom, the 2024 Dhaka International Film Festival in India and the 2024 Wu Wei International Film Festival in Taipei, China.
The film is set to be featured at the 2024 San Diego Film Festival and will compete at the Jargan Film Festival in India, where it will travel to 18 cities until March 2025. Her Locket won 8 awards at the 2024 Sinag Maynila Film Festival.
The premiere was followed by a Q&A session in Chinese and English, led by associate producer Jared Go and publicity manager Joselito Tolentino, with a panel of experts.
Dr. Rebecca Shangkuan Chuaunsu shared her inspiration for the film, while Dr. Joyce Piap Go, a life coach, discussed coping strategies for individuals with traumatic family experiences.
Dr. Tan Cho Chiong, a neuro-psychiatrist, provided tips on the early detection of dementia, and Atty. Kesterson Chua spoke about estate planning and avoiding inheritance conflicts.
The event was attended by representatives from various Filipino Chinese organizations, along with guests from Chinese state-owned companies in the Philippines.
Several academic representatives from different educational institutions were also present.
