The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FFCCCII) and 32 other Filipino Chinese business and civic groups urged the governments of the Philippines and China to resolve the territorial dispute over the West Philippine Sea peacefully.
In a joint statement, the groups expressed support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for diplomacy in handling the dispute.
“We endorse his desire for a peaceful resolution, earnest dialogue and de-escalation of tensions between our two countries,” they said.
The groups appealed to both governments to prioritize peace and stability.
“Instead of strife, let us choose harmony. Instead of conflict, let us choose stability. In these tumultuous times, let us not risk the unity that has prevailed in our Asian region for centuries,” they said.
The groups highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between the Philippines and China, citing cultural ties, family bonds and economic partnerships.
“Together we endured World War II and remained allies in many ways. Our nations have consistently shown the benefits of mutual respect. We implore both sides to refrain from actions that will only fuel the tension,” they said.
They proposed establishing a neutral venue for diplomatic discussions based on mutual respect.
“This will protect the sovereignty of both nations and maintain cordial relations across the region,” they said.
The groups emphasized their belief in peaceful talks.
“We believe that only through constructive dialogue, without blame or condemnation, can we find common ground and resolve our differences amicably,” they said.
They asked both countries to uphold peace, dialogue and cooperation for the economic well-being, security and freedom of their people.
