The Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade (AVFB), in partnership with “Piso Mo, Kabuhi Ko” organization, conducted a relief operation in Barangay Cabagna-an, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on June 9, 2024, following the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.

Mt. Kanlaon erupted on June 3, displacing numerous families and individuals and causing severe damage to the local agriculture.

The brigade organized water rationing at La Castellana National High School, one of the evacuation centers. Slippers, home essentials and hygiene kits were also distributed to the evacuees during the relief operation.

Data from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) showed that the volcanic eruption affected 20 barangays in Negros Occidental and five in Central Visayas, impacting a total of 8,580 families or 29,739 individuals as of June 13, 2024.

The Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade was established in 1977 by the Negros Occidental Filipino Chinese Amity Club, Inc., a civic organization comprised of individuals of Filipino Chinese descent.

The brigade was formed with the primary aim of fostering stronger ties between the Filipino and Chinese communities through active participation in community improvement initiatives, particularly in providing emergency services.
