The National Historical Commission has partnered with the National Library of the Philippines for the opening of the “Pag-asa sa Gitna ng Kalayaan” photo exhibition.

Featuring the work of landscape and travel photographer Paul Quiambao, the exhibit will showcase various photos he took during the expedition he joined at the West Philippine Sea along with several historical maps from the National Library’s Cartographic collection.

Following the opening of the exhibit is a lecture about the West Philippine Sea titled “KwenTubigan 2024: Story of our Seas,” which will be held at the National Library’s Epifanio de los Santos Auditorium and will feature Retired Associate Justice Antonio Carpio and Senior State Counsel Atty. Fretti Ganchoon from the Department of Justice.

The exhibit is part of the commemoration of the 8th anniversary of the landmark arbitration ruling where the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) had ruled in favor of the Philippines’ sovereignty over China’s claims in the West Philippine Sea. It aims to broaden the knowledge of the public regarding the country’s rights over the waters.

The “Pag-asa sa Gitna ng Kalayaan” exhibit will be open to the public starting on July 5 at 1:00 p.m. on the 2nd floor lobby of the National Library.
