Go’s PDDS allies to set ‘barricade’

Supporters of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Thursday said they plan to barricade the Commission on Elections’ main office in Manila to convince the lawmaker that he should continue his presidential bid in next year’s elections instead of withdrawing, which he announced Tuesday.

“We are making a barricade for him not to continue getting inside the Comelec building. We will talk to him,” said PDDS Executive Director Glenn Badon.

Badon said they are staying beside the Comelec building “because we are waiting for our presidential candidate to come in case he is going to file.”

“We are now waiting here to stop him. Not to continue his withdrawal here in the Comelec office,” Badon said.

Although they “understand” Go’s decision, he guaranteed they are willing to “make him win” for the campaign.

According to Badon, Go made the move because he was “emotional.”

They believe Go is the “right person” to continue what Duterte already started, saying that they will make him courageous to face the challenges next year.

“We will help him to be courageous and make a courageous stand because we are ready to always be at his back,” he added.

Go appealed to his supporters for unity and understanding following his decision to withdraw from the presidential race, adding the decision to withdraw was for the best interest of President Rodrigo Duterte and his family.

While he made the decision to back out for his “peace of mind”, Go stressed that he will continue to serve the Filipino people in his capacity as senator.

“I want peace of mind, but it does not mean I will no longer serve you,” assured the long-time aide of Duterte.

He added that he still has “mixed feelings” about his supporters who have already devoted considerable time and effort for him.

Nevertheless, Go stressed that, as a matter of principle, he is firm on his decision.

Meanwhile, Go said that he will support the presidential candidate who can continue the programs and positive changes that the current administration has initiated.

He also expressed faith in the Filipino people’s ability to elect leaders who will effectively serve them.

The senator cited the “Build Build Build” Program, healthcare services such as the Malasakit Centers, and the country’s pandemic response and recovery efforts as some of the initiatives that should continue even after Duterte’s term ends.
