Bong Go says ‘not his time’ for prexy run

Claiming that it is not yet his time to run for President, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go on Thursday stressed he is ready to make sacrifices to ensure he would not cause any problem and nobody would get hurt.

While there were indications that Go, who is seeking the presidency under the PDDS party, would withdraw from the presidential race, the senator nor his camp have yet to issue a categorical statement on the matter.

Go said he no longer wants to burden President Rodrigo Duterte, who has been pushing hard to make him win in the upcoming elections and his supporters.

“I love President Duterte. He is already old. I do not want to add to his problems,” said the longtime aide of the 76-year-old Chief Executive.

In the past few days, Go divulged he realized that his heart and mind are contradicting his own actions.  “My body, heart and mind are indeed resisting. Even my family is being burdened,” he said. Macon Ramos-Araneta

“I’m just a person who gets hurt and tired.  Or it’s just that politics is so ‘hot and dirty,’” he added.

Believing that the presidency is a matter of destiny, Go related that until now, he continues to seek guidance from the Divine. “If it (presidency) is for you, it will be given to you,” he said.

Running for the Presidency, he noted, is something he had never dreamed of.

Go has been avoiding the position, but fate “as I said, has a way of turning things around.”

He said his political party (PDP-Laban) and President Duterte decided on his vying for the presidency and he accepted the challenge.

Before filing his candidacy for the country’s highest elective post, Go said he was a vice presidential candidate for about 40 days.

“And because I love President Duterte and I don’t want to hurt him and his family, I needed to give way,” he said.

Go dropped his vice-presidential bid after the President’s daughter, Davao Mayor Sara Duterte, filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president.

Having said this, Go said he leaves his fate to God and the Filipino people as He vowed to do his best every day to serve selflessly and tirelessly.

“I am willing to make the supreme sacrifice for the good of our country, and for the sake of unity among our supporters and leaders,” he further stated.
