Figure skater Edrian Celestino settled for 22nd place in the 2021 CS Warsaw Cup early Saturday (Manila time) at the Arena COS Torwar in Warsaw, Poland
The 23-year-old Celestino tallied a total 117.08 points in the two-day event, won by defending champion Sota Yamamoto of Japan.
Yamamoto retained the top honors with 247.65 points, while Daniel Grassl of Italy (242.96) and Petr Gumennik of Russia (242.91) wound up second and third, respectively.
Performing to the tune of “In This Shirt by The Irrepressibles” in his short program, Celestino got 66.58 points, which bettered his personal best of 65.1 he set last year in the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in South Korea.
The result added to Celestino’s score of 110.5 points in the free skates, where he usually does his routines to the tune of “You & Me”by Aron Wright or “You” (Piano & Strings) by Future of Forestry.
The 2021 Warsaw Cup served as part of the 2021-2022 International Skating Union Challenger Series happening from September to December.
The eighth and final event, the 2021 CS Golden Spin of Zagreb, is slated from December 8 to 11 in Croatia.
Philippine Skating Union president Nikki Cheng said Celestino still managed to hold his ground against the world’s best.
