Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Monday led the groundbreaking ceremony for a P110-million hospital within the Baseco Compound at Manila’s Port Area.
The three-storey hospital will be named “President Corazon C. Aquino General Hospital.”
It will replace the President Corazon Aquino Health Clinic built during the administration of the late Manila City Mayor Alfredo Lim.
“People rely on the government. Some of us have paid the ultimate price. But we have to do what we have to do. We have to do it. We have to take care of our people,” Moreno said in an impromptu speech.
Once completed, the President Corazon Aquino General Hospital building will have a 24/7 fully operational emergency room, digital x-ray equipment, and centralized oxygen supply line.
The health care facility will also have a community-inclusive outpatient department, radiology department, laboratory and central diagnostics department, dietary department, 24/7 maternity department, and surgery and internal medicine department.
Male and female wards, isolation wards, and a pediatric ward will also be available in the new 50-bed facility.
“We always try to be ahead of the situation or possible uncertainty because we are always certain in the City of Manila,” Moreno said.
The 46-year-old presidential candidate was joined by Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Manila 3rd District Rep. John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto, and officials from the Manila city government.
The President Corazon Aquino General Hospital is the seventh hospital to be built in the City of Manila where every congressional district has its own hospital.
Last June, the COVID-19 Field Hospital became operational after 52 days since the construction began as part of Mayor Isko’s response for additional hospital beds for covid patients.
This December, the new world-class Ospital ng Maynila is expected to be finished and operational before the end of the year.
The old building that housed the old Ospital ng Maynila will be transformed into a Medical School building for the medical students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
