Collegiate basketball might just have a jumpstart with basketball patron Alex Wang planning to hold a Chairman’s Cup invitational tournament as soon as allowed by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
“My plan is to revive the Millennium Basketball League through a collegiate tournament with maybe eight teams in the field. We need to revitalize basketball right after this pandemic,” said Wang, who owns Wang’s Ballclub which is celebrating its 25th year.
Wang has been involved in sports for a long time, with his ballclub winning its share of commercial league championships.
“I had the Letran varsity team play in the PBA’s D League under Wang’s Ballclub to hasten its development. Under Bonnie Tan, the team won the last NCAA seniors’ crown. I am also thinking of initiating talks with the PBA regarding the collegiate tournament I am planning,” said Wang.
