Five equine speedsters took to the track last Sunday at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite to battle it out for the P1.5-million 2021 Philracom Sprint ran over the distance of 1000-meters.

As the smoke cleared, it was lightly-favored Weather Lang (Brigand out of Sky Is The Limit) bringing home the title and the P900,000 top prize for the Running Rich Racing Stable.

Only sent off as the fourth choice, the Ruben Tupaz-trained and Jigger Paano-mounted galloper bided his time at the back of the five-horse field in the early goings as outsider Asiong dictated the pace with Smokin Saturday, Son Also Rises and Runway in tow.

The Melaine Habla-bred five-year-old chestnut made his move with 500 meters to go and positioned himself in third, within striking distance of pace-setter Asiong.

As they turned for home, Weather Lang was driving for the win with Asiong trying his best to stave off the charge. But Weather Lang was not to be denied the victory, clocking  58.4 seconds (12-21’-25) for the journey.

Second place and P337,500 went to the connections of Asiong, followed by Son Also Rises (P187,500) and Smokin Saturday coming in fourth for P75,000.
