Michael Calisaan played for a limited time.
But his small contribution turned heads as the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters stopped Terrafirma’s winning run at three games.
The 6’3” Calisaan struck hardest at the beginning of the second period as he helped hand the Fuel Masters a big 96-84 beating of Dyip on Thursday at the at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
Calisaan came into the picture in the third period and joined hands with the top-scoring Jason Perkins as the Fuel Masters launched a big assault.
Together, Calisaan and Perkins took turns with Matthew Wright in moving the Fuel Masters away from a from a slim 48-47.
Playing for only 18 minutes, Calisaan chipped in only nine points and seven rebounds. But he was most helpful in the last 4:33 in the third canto where Calisaan knocked in nine points during two big scoring runs that allowed the Fuel Masters to gain a decisive 13-point spread.
“He knows his role. His teammates trusted him. He does a lot of dirty work for us and his teammates rewarded him with those passes,” said Fuel Masters’ coach Topex Robinson.
Perkins showed the way for the Fuel Masters with 28 points, with a career-high 20 coming in the first half.
The Fuel Masters took off on a 9-0 blast at the start of the third canto, with Perkins initiating the first breakaway with a layup in the last 11:10.
Calisaan followed it up with a drive and triple for a 53-47 spread in the remaining 8:44.
Vic Manuel added 18 points, with his jumper and trey in the final 11:11 of the fourth keeping the Fuel Masters on top, 73-64.
Aldrech Ramos made 13 points for the Dyip, who fell behind at 3-5 in a tie with the Fuel Masters.
