Register and be counted

The Commission on Elections claims to have surpassed its target number of registered voters—with 61.06 million voters registered after the body validated the papers of 4.3 million first-time voters.

Register and be counted

The projected voting population for the 2022 elections is 73.3 million, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

We strongly appeal to all qualified voters to register now so they can participate in the political exercise in May next year.

We need not over-emphasize that being able to vote—under the Constitution any citizen who is at least 18 years of age—is a major part of citizenship and allows Filipinos to have their say about what is important and what they think their lives should be like.

The May 9, 2022 national elections, for posts in the executive and legislative branches of the government, is a formal group decision-making process by which the population chooses an individual or multiple individuals to hold public office.

The stakes are high.

At the top of the ballot will be the election for president and vice president, 12 members of the Senate, 243 district and 61 party-list representatives of the House of Representatives, 81 provincial governors, 145 city mayors, and 1,489 town mayors.

To be elected also will be provincial vice governors and members of the provincial legislative council as well as vice mayors and members of the city and town councils.

We need not overplay this political exercise suggests the kind of responsibility Filipinos have for the now 110 million population and the younger generations.
