The Arts and Research Training Institute in Southern Tagalog, Incorporated (Artist, Inc.) will be launching the 8th Malikhain International Conference on Culture-based Education through online platforms.
Artist, Inc. is an accredited Regional Arts Center in Luzon of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Kalinga sa Sining. It will hold the conference on Sept. 11, 18, and 25 in collaboration with the Linang Arts and Culture Network and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Since 2014, Artist Inc. has spearheaded the conference to convene cultural educators, scholars, artists, and cultural workers from various learning spaces towards sustained cultural education engagement.
This is to provide an avenue for more focused discussion on specific areas of cultural education and strengthen linkage and networks as resources to promote cultural education.
With this year’s theme “Cultural Education in the Reconstruction, Transformation and Convergence of Living and Learning Spaces,” House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda will render the keynote address.
Notable speakers of the plenary sessions of three-day international event include Hoy Neng Wong Soon of Auckland University of Technology, Roberto Guevara of Royal Melbourne Technology University in Australia, Eva Marie D.G. Salvador of the Cultural Center of the Philippines;
Mary Loh of Talent Development and Programing Center for the Arts at National University of Singapore, Aileen Isidro Carbonell of the Angono Regional Lead Center for the Arts, Alfonso Tesoro of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office of Capiz;
Joan Christi Bagaipo of Samar Province Cultural Education Curriculum and Anabelle Calleja of the Mauban Tourism Office in Quezon, to name a few.
Parallel presentations of 50 papers will also be rendered in every afternoon sessions of the Conference featuring diverse experiences in culture-based education and development of lesson exemplars.
Because of the risk the COVID pandemic has brought to everyone, the conference will be held online.
Nonetheless, Malikhaing Guro aims to serve as a platform to surface various practices, emerging perspectives, and challenges to the different modalities of cultural education, especially those within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and other forms of disruptions.
