The Government Service Insurance System has announced the winners of its 16th National Art Competition held last June 25 with the theme “Alay na Ginhawa sa Panahon ng Pandemya.”
GSIS received a total of 1,451 art entries across three art categories, namely: Representational, Non-Representational (Abstract) and Sculpture/Relief. This represents the highest number of artworks submitted since GSIS launched the art tilt in 2004.
A cash prize of P300,000 was awarded to each of the top winners of the Representational and Non-Representational (Abstract) painting categories while P250,000 was given to the winner of the Sculpture category. Second and Third Place winners in all three (3) categories were granted P200,000 and P100,000, while four Honorable Mentions in all categories received P25,000 each.
The following are the winners of this year’s GSIS Art Competition:
In the representational painting category, John Mhar Santos bagged the first prize for “Parcel No. 143.” Ryan Joseph Casiles and Edu Perreras won second and third prizes for “Yakapsul” and “Doble Kayod,” respectively.
For the Non-Representational (Abstract) painting category, the top prize was awarded to Seifred Guilaran for “Brush Stroke Imitation” while second and third prizes went to Rick Hernandez for his “Tale of Two Variants” and Herbert Pajarito for “Look Up in the Sky.”
For Sculpture, Sariel Armando Ancheta garnered first place for “Tatsulok” followed by Dante Blanco for “Dalangin” and Wilfredo Custodio for “Ang Hardinera” for third place.
Honorable mentions were conferred to Joemel Mirabuena for “Silver Lining,” Christian Cabillo for “Sakripisyo ng Maginhawang Bukas,” Norberto Mallari for “Pakunswelo,” and Edmond Reboredo for “Be Positive – Be Negative,” under the Representational painting category.
In the abstract painting category, Elbert Caballero for “Komposisyon ng Pukyutan,” Jonathan Borjal for “Rusted Sheet,” Rodel Rillera for “Philwealth,” and Aberlardo Maceda Jr. for “Panganib” likewise earned honorable mentions.
Francisco Sibug for “Matthew 11:28,” Wilfredo Baysauli for “Liwanag ng Pag-asa,” Frederick Masangkay for “Plantita,” and Arsenio Lagura Jr. for “Pananagutan” were honorable mentions under the Sculpture category.
All abovementioned winning artworks are now part of the GSIS art collection. The artworks shall be on display at the GSIS Museo ng Sining in Pasay City until December 29, 2021.

To view the winning artworks at the GSIS Museo ng Sining, guests must email museum@gsis.gov.ph or museongsining@gmail.com to schedule their visit. Due to COVID-19, the museum is open on limited capacity and by session with 25 visitors only starting July 13 (Tuesday). GSIS now accepting applications for educational subsidy State pension fund Government Service Insurance System is now accepting applications for the GSIS Educational Subsidy Program (GESP) until September 10. Under the program, GSIS will grant a yearly P10,000 educational assistance to 10,000 members’ children or dependents who are in college.
“Nais naming magdulot ng malaking ginhawa sa mga miyembrong mababa ang sweldo sa pamamagitan ng GESP. Ito ang sagot ng GSIS sa panawagan ni Pangulong Duterte na tumulong sa pagbibigay ng edukasyon sa mga kababayan nating nangangailangan,” said GSIS President and General Manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet.
The grantees will receive a Php10,000 yearly financial assistance from GSIS until they finish their college course provided they maintain a general weighted average of 80%with no failing grade or incomplete mark in any subject.
GESP is open to all active GSIS members who are permanent in employment status; occupying positions with salary grade 24 or below; and updated in their premium payments with no unpaid or underpaid loan amortization for more than three months. The students must be the members’ children or dependents who are taking up a four or five-year course in or have been accepted to any university or college recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.
Applicants must submit an affidavit stating that the students are not recipients of any other educational or financial assistance program (including the GSIS Scholarship program) for the duration of the grant; a school certification stating the student’s course, year level, and the duration of the course and that the student is accepted or enrolled during the current academic year; and a report card or school certification indicating that the general weighted average of the applicant’s dependent is at least 80% with no failing grade and incomplete mark incurred in any subject.
