The local distributor of Australian makeup brand BYS has realized a dream for the Philippine beauty industry—to develop a skincare line for global distribution.
“The iFace team has always had big dreams,” general manager Angie Goyena enthused during the virtual launch of Skin by BYS, a 10-piece skincare line conceptualized by BYS Philippines and developed in collaboration with the brand’s Australian team.
Skin by BYS was launched in the Philippines and Australia on April 30, and will be followed by a global launch in the coming months.
“Our dream of making the Philippines lead when it comes to skincare innovations on the world stage has become a reality,” said Goyena.
The complete-step skincare line consists of Extra Gentle Micellar Water (removes makeup and has anti-inflammatory and skin whitening properties) Extra Gentle Milk Jelly Cleanser (removes oil and unclogs pores), Extra Hydrating Balancing Toner (restores skin elasticity and reduces fine lines while keeping moisture locked in), Extra Glow Brightening Serum (lightweight and rich in vitamin C and skin boosters for brighter and plumper skin), Extra Firming Youth Serum (helps reduce appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and has anti-allergy, antibacterial, and UV protection properties).
Also part of the range: Extra Glow Face Cream (brightening cream with antioxidant properties), Extra Brightening Eye Cream (brightens skin and helps diminish puffiness with anti-inflammatory properties), Extra Effortless Pore Perfecting Sunblock (has broad spectrum SPF50 PA+++ and pore-blurring and sebum-controlling properties), Extra Glow Sheet Mask (improves skin texture), and Extra Firming Sheet Mask (helps refine skin).
Like the brand’s makeup, Skin by BYS is reasonably priced, ranging from P399 to P899, while both sheet masks retail at P89 each.
The Filipino-made line highlights natural ingredients, doing away with 10 components which dermatologist Dr. Maika Slatensek, who vetted the products, says, are harmful to the skin, such as petroleum, animal derivatives, phthalates, triclosan, silicone, parabens, artificial colors, propylene glycol, MEA/DEA/TEA, and sulphates that can cause skin irritation and/or allergy, among others.
“Skin by BYS has created a range of products that is cruelty-free, vegan friendly, and hypoallergenic, and they function to cleanse, treat, moisturize, and protect,” stated Dr. Slatensek.
Taking the place of the aforementioned harmful ingredients on the list are 10 powerful natural ingredients, dubbed Botaniceutical Plus, that target skin concerns such as dryness, irritation, free radicals linked to aging, and more.
While recommended for those with oily or dry skin, the line focuses on brightening, which Goyena said was currently the most in-demand in skincare.
“We want to come up with a skincare line that’s also on-trend,” she said.
Amanda Aitken, managing director of GFA Australia, whose brands include BYS, added, “We wanted to make a skincare line that would appeal to younger audiences. Having that brightening formula appeals to the younger person.”
Skin by BYS is exclusively available at Watsons, The SM Store, and on Watsons.com.ph and ShopSM.com.
