While guest rooms remain closed for leisure travelers, a Filipino hospitality group keeps the business afloat by opening its doors to share its resources and expertise with other businesses.
“There was an initial denial that this (pandemic) would last long,” admitted Josephine Concio, strategic initiatives head of Discovery Hospitality Corporation (DHC). “We are faced with something that we couldn’t stop.”
Recognizing that “denial will only hold us back”, the group started to work on things they can control. “The first thing we did was calm ourselves down. Then containment, ensuring our employees and our guests are safe. And after that, it’s time to push forward,” shared Concio.
DHC offers its trademarked allied businesses, property management, and shared services that are tried and tested in their own brands.
Hotel-grade sanitation
Interested parties looking to learn and carry out stringent hotel-grade cleaning and sanitation protocols in their offices can take advantage of DHC’s Home Safe program. The program, developed in partnership with Lysol, aims to share with clients the best health and safety practices already implemented in the group’s hotels and resorts.
Safe meeting spaces
Through Safe Space, DHC opens rental spaces in its city hotels Discovery Primea in Makati and Discovery Suites in Ortigas to hybrid meetings and conferences, intimate gatherings, corporate events, and co-working or remote working. The program ensures safety for all guests, with the spaces cleaned and sanitized using US EPA-accredited Lysol products following Home Safe protocols after each use.
Medical care in hotel
Patients who want to meet their physicians or get medical care in a less risky space can do so in a comfortable room of Discovery Suites Ortigas. The hotel offers Safe Care program that connects guests with medical experts from Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Each meeting space is sanitized following the Home Safe standard, and health and safety measures mandated by the Department of Tourism are in full effect.
Employee wellness
In partnership with labor gymnastics company GPA Brazil, DHC offers Laboral program designed to help employees maintain better health and achieve a more comprehensive wellness level. Held virtually once a week, each session consists of exercise sequences designed to target different high-tension areas of the body that take on the strain of desk work, especially the lower back, neck, and shoulders.
DHC also offers its expertise in digital marketing, food and beverage, information technology, human resources, business strategy, finance, and operational management.
“We are grateful for the experiences that helped us grow as a company and as individuals. It’s time for us to take part and provide the same hand to our co-business owners and share our knowledge and expertise,” said Jun Parreno, president of Discovery World Corporation and chief operations officer of DHC.
