The living room of the Los Angeles abode of Filipino architect Daniel Romualdez is included in the 2021 list of the best living rooms in the world chosen by interior design experts.
The list is part of Phaidon Press’ By Design: The World’s Best Contemporary Interior Designers, a soon-to-be-released book that spotlights the world’s “most exceptional, innovative, and groundbreaking interior designers working today”.
Romualdez’s living room features calming, neutral tones, layered textures, and earth elements (wood, metal, stone) for which he is known. In fact, the living room of his New York apartment, which was featured in Vogue France a few years ago, also highlights his love for tonal colors in various shades of warm white.
Born and raised in Manila and educated in Yale, he is the architect-designer son of Benjamin Romualdez, former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ younger brother.
Prior to bagging his high-profile clients – that include Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Aerin Lauder, Daphne Guiness, Ina Garten, and Matt Lauer – then student Romualdez first assisted in the renovation of his parents’ Stanford White house on Long Island, then went on to work for Thierry Despont before opening his firm, Daniel Romualdez Architects, in 1993.
He was also featured in the August issue of Vanity Fair in 2017 and listed in Architectural Digest’s 100 List of the world’s best interior designers and architects in 2012.
This year, Romualdez joins By Design’s best living rooms in the world along with Sophie Ashby of Studio Ashby, Bridgette Romanek of Romanek Design Studio, Kit Kemp of Firmdale Hotels, Grisanti & Cussen by Hugo Grisanti and Kana Cussen, Young Huh of Young Huh Interior Design, Fawn Galli of Fawn Galli Interiors, Tom Scheerer, and Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet of Humbert & Poyet.
