Love stories

From the classic romantic drama Love Story, came these iconic movie lines, “Love means never having to say you’re story,” and “What can you say about a 25-year-old girl who died? That she was beautiful. And brilliant. That she loved Mozart and Bach. And the Beatles. And me.”

With the gorgeous music teacher Ali Mc Graw as Jenny and the handsome and affluent preppie Oliver Barrett IV portrayed by Ryan O’ Neal, this motion picture has stood the test of time and can be considered as the ultimate hugot flick devoid of melodrama and the usual trappings and trimmings of a romantic silver screen offering.

Nowadays, most especially in local Tinseltown, all eyes are on three pairings whose love stories have been scrutinized to bits: Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna’s instant romance; Gerald Anderson and Julie Barretto’s tempestuous fantasy; and the you-and-me-against-the-world pink coupling of Vice Ganda and Ion Perez.

Two adjectives are the most apt adjectives for the Ramsay-Adarna pairing: fast because their first official meeting happened with an eating encounter with Ruffa Gutierrez and before we can even digest their emotional entanglement in full, in a snap they are lovers, then engaged, now cohabiting with Derek now acts as the father figure to Ellen’s biological firstborn with drama king John Lloyd Cruz. No blood bad between the two alphas.

Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna

The other adjective, of course, is furious, especially coming from the fans and supporters of Andrea Torres, Derek’s ex-girlfriend whom he proclaimed before as the one he was most likely to walk down the aisle with—a broken promise and all Andrea can do now is to live well and be devastatingly beautiful at that, as her best revenge.

And what about the love story of Anderson and Barretto? Their combined last names sound like a formidable and reputable law firm whose specialties are marital and extramarital shenanigans and woes.

A not-so-secret romance they failed to cover up miserably. After a year in hiding,” the confession of Gerald about it was met with dismay, disgust, not to mention anger and wrath from all the women who identify with the ordeal and suffering of Bea Alonzo.

Gerald Anderson and Julia Barreto

Add the fact that the big “I love Julia” reveal became a promotional ploy for his latest drama offering added more insult to the injured, Plus, Anderson’s riding the “moral high horse," so full in his conviction that no jilting and ghosting transpired, is a total knock over in any romance and real-life book on relationships.

Two years and counting in their different kind of pink love, the latest strain to the relationship of Vice Ganda and Ion was not of their doing.

A manufactured gossip from two vloggers reached fever pitch proportions that included ingredients like identity theft and salacious details like a kinky sexual congress.

Vice Ganda and Ion Perez

Though the terrible two already issued a public apology and have sought the forgiveness of the pink partners, it cannot be denied that what they did tarnished the reputation of the vlogging community. The duo is a sample of so-called “influencers behaving shamefully” with their use of lies they tried to perpetuate as truth with the aim to seduce more subscribers and viewers.  Money and notoriety indeed can make the world go round.

What happens then to the trio of lovers in the nearest future?  We can predict wedding bells for Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna.  A baby for Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto. The miss has been most vocal in wanting a child even without the sanctity of marriage. And a happily ever after for Jose Marie Viceral and Benigno Perez to prove to all the naysayers that what they have is real love, and that Vice’s popularity and money are not the reasons why Ion took this matter of the heart gamble.

Will there ever come a time that these lovers will say “sorry” and “regret” the things they did for the glory of love?  Wishing unhappiness and ill to the romances of other people is not my cup tea. Personally believing in the saying that “what they sow, they will reap.” It is only them and their commitment to make their relationships work will keep it burning, grounded, realistic, and forevermore.
